Under the Lord Ruler's dominion, humanity was forced to live beneath an eternal layer of ash that choked the sky. This environmental catastrophe was not a direct result of Allomancy itself, but rather the consequence of the Lord Ruler's actions at the Well of Ascension—he used the power there to reshape the world in a desperate bid to stop the Deepness, not through Hemalurgy but through a combination of Feruchemy and Allomancy. The society was rigidly stratified into Skaa (slaves) and nobles; however, while the nobility primarily utilized Allomancy to maintain their status, Hemalurgy remained a closely guarded secret power used exclusively by the Lord Ruler to create his Inquisitors and sustain his own immortality. The empire's collapse began when a group of thieves discovered they could use Allomancy to challenge the Lord Ruler's perceived divinity. This rebellion shattered the religious foundation that held the tyrant in power for centuries, revealing him as a mortal who had cheated death rather than an actual deity.
